not going to lie the first morning i took half a bar trying to get the pain to go away..is it ok to take xanax to try and sleep instead of sleeping pills? so now were on day 2 waiting to go see a doctor. Is it a good idea to take suboxon if its recomened or is it better to take the non narcotic drugs? please please someone help us with this!!!
Dear Blues, if the suboxone dr you go to tries to honestly help you by properly treating you with suboxone and also has you do the addiction therapy, and you have jobs, family or other responsibilities where you can NOT be dope sick, hate to put it that way, but in withdrawal, in my opinion, suboxone is the way to go. If you don't and want to stick it out cold turkey, there is a list called the Thomas Recipe and you can google that as the Thomas recipe opiate withdrawal and it lists over the counter meds and supplements that help the symptoms of withdrawal. Sometimes people can't stand the cravings or temptation, or go into a depression when they stop the opiates cold turkey, so suboxone stops all withdrawal and craving and if you are in the counseling I suggested, if you start looking like you are depressed, they help you work on that. I would suggest the counseling if you do the cold turkey too, but some, a few, can just get support and good influence from others and make it without it. I was successfully treated with suboxone and have been off 11 months give or take a day, and was fine coming off. Sometimes people add things that would completely change my answer, such as, they are on methadone and think they can just switch to suboxone, just in case, I have to mention that. If you are, you should be tapered to 30 mgs or less of methadone and then you need to wait 3 days methadone free, and be started on the sister medication, subutex, this decreases the chance of precip. Ok, now that is out of the way, keeping yourself around people who will support you and that care is also critical right now for you 2. If you decide to continue cold turkey. This is going to sound like a health nut idea, it isn't, it works. If you 2 can muster any energy at all and get out and walk for 10 minutes twice a day, and then slowly add a minute or 2 every few days, I swear it works to help stablizie you quicker and with withdrawal. It can shorten the duration and the severity, but I know it sounds impossible. If you are going cold turkey, try it, I weaned off suboxone with the walking. it works. Patti
