... on his shin and it hasn't gotten any better. He has been on oral & IV antibiotics. The culture came back as Strept. The Dr. doesn't want to give him steriods because it will keep the wound from healing. The wound has a very bad smell to it and appears to have grown from the size of a dime to the size of a dollar bill. We can't get any straight answers as to what to do about this. What should we be asking the Dr.? I understand he is 82 but otherwise very healthy only taking allpurinal for some arthritis. Please help!
My 82 yr old Father in Law has vasculitis and has been hospitalized for it. They debrided the wound

If the vasculitis is keeping the antibiotic from reaching the wound, would H-bot help with the healing?
Is your father in Law a diabetic? Is he still in the hospital if so tey should be doing dressing changes done by a wound care nurse. That should keep it clean and the odor should not be so bad. If he is at home is home care coming in to do wound care or has anyone be shown how to do dressing changes? this web site might help http://www.rheumatology.org/public/factsheets/diseases_and_conditions/vasculitis.asp - 43k. Wow I am sorry to have this happening to him. I know it must be hard for you and the family as well. I hope you get some insite from the link I sent Good Luck and God Bless.I will keep him in my prayers and hopefully he will be better soon Barb
