He is hyperactive & has trouble focusing sometimes. When he's interested in something he can focus. He started the medication Wed and there was no improvement in behavior. he 's taking 10 mg.
My son is ADHD and was very hyperactive, aggressive and was unable to focus. He was started on Concerta and I saw a difference within hours of his taking the medication. With your grandson, he is either on too low a dose, the wrong medication or has something other than ADHD. It is unlikely that it is not ADHD. His symptoms sound very much like it, so he is probably on too conservative a dose or it is the wrong medication for him. I would encourage his parent or if you are the caregiver, you should speak to the Dr about the effects. The psychiatrist may be trying to slowly introduce the medicine so they just may need to adjust the dose a bit or try a different medication like methyphenidate (Concerta is a long acting methylphenedate or something like Strattera or one of the other ADHD meds) if raising the dose does not work. Sometimes it is a bit of trial and error until you find the right medicine and the right dose so just hang in there. We got VERY lucky to hit upon the right dose and med right away!
