I have a right sprained knee that that still feels muscle spasms and numbness as well as stiffness. Sometimes I can move it more easily and sometimes not, I still use a cane for leverage.
Sprains take a notoriously long time to heal. A sprain in the knee will take even longer because it's a major weight-bearing joint. The muscle spasms are not unusual. Nor is the numbness. You have swelling in your knee, caused by the injury, which is pressing against nerves. This leads to the numbness. Taking ibuprofen will help with the swelling. You should also make a point of icing your knee several times a day. If the muscle spasms are particularly painful or bothersome, I would suggest you see your Dr to see about prescribing a muscle relaxer. Unfortunately time and patience are the main requirements in an injury such as yours. I do hope you get to feeling better soon! :)
