I have narcolepsy with cataplexy (cataplexy: a sudden episode of muscle weakness typically triggered by strong emotions) and I was recently prescribed flexeril for some back muscle pain, but since it is a muscle relaxant I am worried if it will make my cataplexy worse.
Absolutely it will. I'm a bit shocked someone with your issues would be prescribed something that relaxes muscles and makes you drowsy.
Did the same Dr that diagnosed your conditions prescribe this???
Have you tried GABA CALM? It is specifically for Cataplexy. I have been using it for 2 years. Also, Minipress (Prozosin) is used for Cataplexy. a D.O. Prescribed both of these and I've gotten relief.
I also have narcolepsy with cataplexy and have found Flexeril to be very effective in reducing or at least lessening the severity of my cataplectic episodes. I take Flexeril for muscles spasms and tension, brought on by stress usually. Flexeril kind of broke the viscous cycle of stress= Muscle spasms= pain= more stress.
