For female, age 73, already taking per day:
one 325 mg aspirin, one 25 mg HCTZ, one 12.5 mg Metropolol.
I requested to refill Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine) and Dr. instead ordered Baclofen. Is
there a real difference or safety factor? Thanks.

Have you been on flexiril for a long period of time? I have read it should not be used for over like 6 mths, I took it for 10 yrs and it seemed to lose it's effectiveness so we switched it up. Baclofen was tried and (granted this was just my reaction) I ended up in the er because after 2 days taking it I was knocked out and would wake and answer that it was 1994, it was scary. After trying many different ones I went back to flexiril, it seems many including myself feel it does the best job fighting off those awful muscle spasms. As long as your reacting fine to it, most docs say to give most meds about a month. If it doesn't help you like the flexiril, tell your doc. I'd also ask why it was changed, they should of went over that with you. All my best to you!
Flexeril is an antispasmodic that works on the brain stem level, where as Baclofen works on the Spinal level. So it depends on what area of the body you are having spasms. Baclofen is largely considered to be more effective for spasms overall.
I started taking seizures starting July 13th of this year and it appeared to the outside person that it was Turrets because of the movements and the speech issues. Flexeril was given to me when I was rushed to hospital by ambulance; they believed I was suffering from a stroke. I am 32; it was very scary for myself, my fiance, and my mom and step-dad to watch this happen and no answers. Well first hospital I was at gave me Adivan and after 2 hours of these symptoms I woke right back up and I was fine; they sent me back home and 3 hours left it was back with vengeance and I seized for a total of 25 hours from the first visit to the second (there was no Neurologist on staff) they basically had to OD me on Adivan to get me to the nearest hospital with a Neurologist. I had to get in the car while seizing and screaming because they had no Neuro. so had to put it in paperwork as Severe Muscle Spasms.
