I take a multivitamin that already has 25mg of Niacin (as Niacinimide). Can I take additional niacin supplements to treat anxiety and depression?
The recommended daily intake of Niacin is 16 mg for males. You also can get it from a variety of foods. Taking more of something is not always the best thing. If you are deficient in niacin (B3) checked by a blood test from your doctor it may help depression, if not, it is not known to help depression or anxiety. It can also cause what is called the 'niacine flush'.
Normally you should be getting enough from your multi-vitamin and dietary consumption.
If you are not taking an antidepressant, you can always try other herbal remedies for depression and anxiety. Some people find them helpful. Best to check with a professional.
