My Dr. says that I have arthritis in my knee, but I feel as though something is torn. I can't walk very far, pain is very severe.
Sometimes, even with an MRI, there can be a tear in the cartilage that doesn't show. The only way to truly know is to have arthroscopic surgery and go in and take a look.
A tear in the meniscus can be very painful. Having this tear shaved off can relieve much of the pain. If you are seeing an orthopedic surgeon and have tried rest, ice, NSAIDS, and steroid injection(s) with no improvement , likely the next step is Arthroscopic surgery. I have had this done 3 times on my knees and the difference in pain is like night and day. Recovery is very easy as well. Regards - EJ23
