I used monistat 1 to cure a light yeast infection I've been reading questions to see if I can find answers but I can't a lot of them are saying I need to use a 7 day treatment is that true? Also I used it last night when I went to bed and woke up with gunk and some kind of leakage in my underwear does that mean it's working? Also today I am burning really bad down there but it doesn't hurt or itch it just burns what does that mean? Lastly does the capsule come out on its own or do I have to take it out& how long does it take to cure my yeast infection?
I just want to add that one day treatments can take up to seven days to work fully. The discharge and gunk was just from the medicine. The capsule melts in the vagina spreading the medication about. Some will run out. The vaginal tissues can be very irritated from the infection and this can make the medication burn. This should go away in a day or two. Since the capsule melts, you dont have to take it out. DO NOT DOUCHE! Never douche for any reason UNLESS your Dr tells you to (and that will likely be a cold day in hell) Douching is not necessary and is in fact usually detrimental to vaginal health. It upsets the balance of the vagina. The pH balance and the balance of "good" and "bad" bacteria. If the "good" bacteria are killed off by douching (and the pH will change because of douching) "bad" bacteria kept in check by the "good" will over grow and lead to infections. The vagina is "self cleansing" and doesnt need to be douched. Just gently wash the vulva (the outer portion of female genitals that can be seen) with a mild soap/cleanser and warm water and gently pat dry. No water or douches need to be squirted up into the vagina-EVER! Give the medication seven days to work. If your symptoms are not better by then, you need to see your Dr. many times women are infected by organisms other than "yeasts" and Monistat will not work against these organisms. Unless you are absolutely certain you have a yeast infection, it is usually best to see your Dr who can look at secretions under the microscope and diagnose them correctly if necessary.
