if I have it. Thanks
I'm very sorry to hear about your Mum.
As for your question, there is no direct screening test to look specifically for pancreatic cancer like there is for say prostate cancer where they test for the PSA.
However three things that can be used to detect pancreatic cancer are;
1. An Upper Abdominal Ultrasound, which will check the size, shape and echogenicity of the pancreas and the size of the pancreatic duct.
2. A contrast enhanced CT abdomen, with fine slices through the pancreas at 40 seconds post contrast, to check for abnormal contrast enhancement of the pancreas and masses within the pancreas, and
3. A blood test to check your pancreatic enzymes such as lipase.
None of these are 100% sensitive or specific, but they're a good place to start if you are concerned.
All the best to you and your Mum.
