What could possibly come of mixing celexa and tramadol? I was prescribed both. Normally I take the celexa in the morning and the tramadol just whenever I need it for my back. But I forgot to take the celexa this morning and went to take a tramadol and don't want to take them both unless it won't hurt.
It is considered a major interaction which means the following:
"Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit."
Interactions between your selected drugs
tramadol ↔ citalopram
Applies to: tramadol, Celexa (citalopram)
Talk to your doctor before using traMADol together with citalopram. Combining these medications can increase the risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death. You should contact your doctor immediately if you experience these symptoms while taking the medications. Using traMADol with citalopram may also increase the risk of seizures not related to the serotonin syndrome. The interaction may be more likely if you are elderly, undergoing alcohol or drug withdrawal, have a history of seizures, or have a condition affecting the central nervous system such as a brain tumor or head trauma. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Other drugs that your selected drugs interact with
tramadol interacts with more than 300 other drugs.
Celexa (citalopram) interacts with more than 500 other drugs.
Interactions between your selected drugs and food
No results found - however, this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. ALWAYS consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Hello sabster55, this is just my experience. Celexa works great for my
depression/anxiety. Then my previous Dr. prescibed Tramadol for my pain.
I had severe interactions. Thought I was having a nervous breakdown..
I also got violently angry and irrational at my favorite pharmacists at my
favorite (walking distance) pharmacy. I fired my Dr. and actually changed
drugstores, to one I had to ride the bus up the street. I was Crazy mad
mad. Anyway- for me-they were Bad Drugs to mix..BTW, i'm fine again... dd
Did the same dr order them? Did you get them filled at the same pharmacy? The warning is about serotonin syndrome which is far more rare then they'd have you believe. I take an antidepressant and tramadol everyday for over the last 10 yrs and have never had a problem. I think DD is the only one I know of who has had a problem.
Hi, just wanted to add my experience of mixing Tramadol & Celexa, i never had a problem. I took the 2 for several years. However, this doesn't mean that everyone will have the same experience. Please heed the advice given about the interaction risk, just to be sure, if you have doubts, give your doctor a call...
