Mitotane - I have a child who can't swallow tablets , we have inserted a nasal tube and try?
Added 29 Jan 2015:
I have a 8 year old boy who has a very rare cancer , adrenalcortical carconoma , stage IV , he can't swallow tablets and needs to take Mitotane 2 tablets 4 times a day, I have tried crushing them and giving it to him with ice cream and ice blocks and everything he likes and now he won't eat his favourite things as it reminds him of his medicine , there is no taste to the Mitotane but he has phobias with taking medication , he has been going through a huge ordeal this past year , he has gone through the a traumatic experience the last couple days as we felt the only option now is to insert a nasogastric tube and to give him his Mitotane that way as he Has to have it.
We tried inserting the nasogastric tube 2 days ago and he fought and cried and kicked and screamed, he held his nose so the nurses were unable to do the procedure it just wouldn't happen, they tried holding his arms back and they tried this for over a hour and it was a very traumatic experiance for me to witness to, So we tried again yesterday while he was sedated and he can still remember what happened , I feel so sorry for what he going through he tells me he never thought it would be that bad and wishes he didn't have to go through this!
Our problem now is after all that we Administered his Mitotane last night to him desolved in warm water in a syringe through the nasogastric tube but it blocked half way with putting it through the tube :(
We have tried everything to unblock it , we tried more warm water , lemonade , coke , we have pushed and pulled it and it's so blocked the Mitotane has set like concrete inside the line!
My question is now if anyone cause please tell me the best way to unblock the line so he don't need to go through all the trauma of getting another tube inserted and also I really want to know the best way to desolve the Mitotane so it can go through the nasogastric tube without blocking if we take it out and put a new tube in , I don't want this to happen again , he is missing out on his medication and going through huge traumatic times to administer it , please I urgently need the best advice to desolve the Mitotane so it travels completely through the line and will flush afterwards without blocking !!! Please my heart is crying out for answers I have contacted pharmacis and other hospitals around the world and have been hitting brick walls every where I turn !
I pray that someone can help me so I can help my son!
