I've given citalopram a really good go for 3 months, 10mg rising to currently 20mg and have been so up and down and don't feel much better! My doctor has suggested 10mg of cit in morning and 15mg of mirtazapine at night to then gradually come off cit, does anyone have any advice please?
Hi, Citalopram and Mirtazipine are in different drug classes and are commonly prescribed for different reasons... Citalopram is used predominantly for depression, sometimes anxiety. Mirtazipine is used for the 2 reasons just mentioned, but more so for treating OCD, migraine and as a sleep aid. When i started taking Citalopram my initial dose was 20mg, and i found benefits from an increase to 40mg, which is a common realisation, of course every one is different. You might find that Mirtazipine is the right medication for you, but unfortunately you won't know until you try it... I know it has been successful for many people, and the way you are transitioning from one to the other is a good plan. I hope you do well!
