Ive had mirena about 4 years now, Im 23 and Its been about four years since I had my son and got mirena, I still get periods and there always irregular. Is this normal?
Hi! I also had the mirena from about 2008 to about 2013, I actually didn't have any periods throughout almost the entire experience (I only had two near the beginning) and I still have not received my period back (I'm only 29). My doctor said that this can be very common because part of the mirena is the hormones that it contains and these help to reduce your uterus lining thus reducing the need to 'shed' the lining at the end of your cycle. This can indeed cause irregular periods as can stress (one of the reasons we think mine have not returned ( I had one in July this year and then it disappeared again). Both are common in causing irregular periods so if you are experiencing high periods of stress ( I hope not ) then this may also be a cause of what's going on, not just your mirena, but your lining may have shrunk due to the hormones thus you are not needing to shed the lining as frequently because it is taking longer to come back up to the 'full' amount (I couldn't think of another word, sorry). I would still recommend talking to you OB-GYN just to make sure something more serious is not going on! Our female health is very important to take care of especially as a preventative medicine! Much luck on your journey
