In my early 30s I tried the Depo shot and I bleed so heavy for so long that I became anemic and was put on the pill to stop the bleeding. Now I'm 38 and have extremely heavy, but regular periods and am considering the Mirena IUD. I am so afraid of having the same side effects as the Depo shot. Does any one have insight or opinions on this that can help me buck up and try Mirena?
Hi, I have had a mirena in for 3 months. I used to get very heavy periods but they only lasted 5-6 days and were very regular. Now i get bleeding every day, but lighter. I have bad lower back pain and pelvic pain. Yes the bleeding is definately lighter but it lasts alot longer and i can't tell when i will bleed and not. I had a mirena a few years ago for 2 years then had it taken out to conceive. I had no problems with that at all. I had a miscarriage, decided not to have another baby (already have 2) and had one put back in. I don't remember having this same problem the first time around, but now i am considering having it taken out again due to irregular and much bleeding. Each person is different. Like i said, first time around it was great. My friend has a mirena now going on 2 years and she loves it also, no problems. It will reduce your bleeding, but only you will know from experience on how long that will last for.
