I don't have thinning hair, my hair just grows really slow, only about 3 inches a year and it's taking forever to grow out. Will this help with growth? Also, if I stop using it, will it make my hair fall out?
Minoxidil is FDA approved for thinning hair from androgenetic alopecia. It is not formally approved for any other uses, including slow growth. It can be used off label but such off label uses should be carefully reviewed with a physician.
There are over 40 causes of slow hair growth. A very thorough evaluation is required to determine the precise cause.
Failure to grow long hair can be a sign of androgenetic alopeca but can also be a sign of other conditions including hair breakage. See a dermatologist for a full evaluation if things don't improve. Your scalp should be carefully evaluated and hairs examined under the microscope for hair shaft damage.
