Minoxidil is FDA approved for androgenetic hair loss. In this situation it most certainly helps a proportion improve their hair.
As you have stated, it helps stop hair loss as well - as a preventive treatment.
Without knowing more details, it would not be possible to confirm you have androgenetic hair loss. But certainly lots of individuals improve their hair!
