Could a woman use the 5% if it proves to be more effective?
Minoxidil - Why is there a difference in strengths between men (5%) and women (2%)?

You could if you want to risk growing a mustache, beard and chest hair! A certain amount is absorbed systemically from your scalp and could cause increased hair growth in unwanted (by women) areas. This is why the strength is lower for women.
The 5 % minoxidil is now approved for once daily use in the USA - for women. The foam formulation received FDA approval in 2014 for once daily use. Speak to your physician about whether this drug could be right for you.
Once daily use of the 5 % foam appears similar in effectiveness to twice daily use of the 2 % minoxidil solution.
Be sure to speak to your physician if minoxidil 5 % foam is appropriate.
