if I have a large deposit of hard phecies will it soften it and allow for passage safely. I have taken other laxatives and they are not helping.
i get this problem at least1 a month , do to the pain meds that bind me up, The best thing to do when your feces is in the shape of little balls, and does not want to come out, you can do 3 Things, Drink a dose and a half of Milk of Magnesia, followed by drinking a few large glasses of water and taking a walk around the block few times, but stay as close to the house as possible. One other thing is giving yourself an ENIMA, fill it with warm water, the warmer, the better, and use Vaseline to get the tube inside you, after all that warm liquid INSIDE YOUR COLON AND INTESTINE IT ONL HAS 1 WAY TO COME OUT. #3rd, Or you can try doing something a little gross and disgusting to help, but help yourself, by Sticking a finger in there, and pulling out all the caked up crap, that is stuck inside you. remember you don't wanna push to hard and give yourself any Hemorrhoids. THAT CAN BE SERIOUS.

New York Guy is right. The only way of getting rid of feces that dry, blocking the rectum, is to either see if you can get it loose with an enema or you have to digitally remove it by breaking it up with your fingers. No laxative will soften that hard stool already there. You will only liquify what is behind it and that will leak around the ball of stool and make you very uncomfortable. If an enema wont dislodge it you will either have to remove it yourself or have a Dr or nurse do a disimpaction which is using a gloved finger to remove it. If you want to try to do this yourself get some rubber medical gloves at the drug store and lubricate the fingers and rectal area with vaseline or KY Jelly and try to break the larger ball of stool into smaller pieces you can pass or remove with your fingers. It is not a comfortable procedure but very necessary. Try not to let yourself get like this again by making sure you are drinking plenty of water (64 oz a day) and getting fiber. You can supplement your fiber intake with something like Benefiber (my personal favorite because it has no flavor and doesnt thicken beverages), Citrucel or metamucil. Eat plenty of fruits with the skins, veggies and whole grains. Bran cereal or muffins work really well. Also the old fashioned rememdy of prunes-dried or regular or prune juice to keep you regular. If you go longer than 2-3 days without a BM it is time for a laxative. Nothing will work until you get that stool clear of the rectum though.
