I have been having migraines for about 2 weeks & now what feel like cluster headaches for the past 1 1/2 weeks. I went to the ER the first week & gave me some med's, they do not work & I feel like I should not go to the ER again. They make you wait so long, but my appointment with the nero is't till feb! Please help I feel like digging my eye out! Thanks.
SoMuchPain, do you have a regular doctor you go see. I ask because my doctor has tried several things to control mine. I'm not suggesting this as a long term medicine, or to take everyday, but if you have a regular doctor, you may want to ask him about Relpax. I take Fioranal for severe migraines that just will not go away. But I take them very sparingley, due to they can be addictive and if taken alot can cause rebound headaches... so I've heard. I was on topamax, and didn't like it at all. And it didn't work well. I'm now trying Verapamil for preventative migraine treatment. Relpax and fiorinal just help the migraine go away. They aren't preventative migraine medicine's. But they do work for short term. I hope I helped a little with my experiences. You can ask you're doctor about them anyway. Wishing you better soon, and take care. Best wishes, Ruthie
OMG I feel for you! Waiting until Feb is just cruel ... do you have a regular doctor that you can get an Rx from in the meantime? Verapamil can help with clusters. I remember literally feeling my swollen eyeball contract a few hours after my first dose, although it is supposed to more of a maintenance med than an immediate treatment.
Have you tried any migraine meds... Imitrex, Amerge, etc? They work for some, although not all. When it gets really bad all I can do is take an Ambien and hope I can fall asleep.
What about some alternative therapy - acupuncture helps some folks.
The main thing I get relief from is craniosacral therapy, if you can find a practitioner in your area. Naturopaths or alternative medicine clinics would be the place to look.
I've been there... ((hugs))... good luck.
Years and years ago my mom was prescribed a medication called Bellergal-S. It's actually a drug that can work on several different things, but she got it for her migraine and then later was put on it daily for her menopause symptoms. I've used it on several occasions myself and it did help tremendously with my migraines. I don't blame you for wondering about your pm dr. I would too. If she's not going to address all your pain issues, it might be best to find someone else who will. I truly hope you feel better soon!
I suffer from migraines too, and to wait until Feb , that is inhumane, totally inhumane.

I hope you find a medication that can help you.
I take the one you hate ... topamax.
I hope you can be treated before that ridiculous date... sorry my friend, but it really upsets me the way you are being treated.
All the best,
Yes, definately try your regular doctor who should be able to at least try you on another daily preventative medication. I wasn't able to tolerate any of the daily preventative meds or they didn't help me. Instead I was greatly helped by an herbal medication called Petadolex which you find on-line and order it without a prescription. It is evaluated by Germany, so it doesn't have some of the common impurities and toxins that many of the other herbal meds have. Still the cost will be out of your pocket. Good luck.
I went through this too. I had to wait to see a Neurologist. Once I got there he prescribe me stuff that did not work for me either. I have tried Topomax and that only made it worst like you. I have a new one to try now but I need to try it either on a weekend when I don't work to see the side effects. I usually am sensitive to side effects. What I do now is when I feel the effect of a migraine in the night I get one tylenol and one advil and ice pak for neck and stay lying down in a dark room with no noise. If it happens in the morning I take the same but add one cup of coffee to activate it faster for relief. Hope this helps!
