Well, I am 58, always been fit and healthy until a couple years ago... been having bad eye irritations and thyroid problems which are finally being resolved... I use to work out with weights at a gym and loved it and feel it was helping to keep me fit and toned and the weight down... had to give it up a couple years ago due to the pressure in my head... but have continued to hike and walk five days a week... The problem? BELLY FLAB and fat that I can not seem to get rid of... I am not really overweight, just need to find a safe way to reduce the fat around the middle... It is said that menopausal women and stress can add this type of fat and it is hard to get rid of... Anyone with some good help ideas for me out there? I am 5'2" and about 125-130 pounds...
join the crowd, i too have that belly flab and cant get rid of it either..im 54 and never weighed more than 115lbs, but going through menapause does put it in the middle and depression can also cause this.i need to tighten up my stomach muscles but with my pain issues and fibro its hard to do any exercise except for walking which i try and do at least 3x a week if weather permits. let me know how it turns out.Eve54
LJA, we re the same age and about the same size. i had my thyroid removed 7 yrs ago and I have the pudgy belly, never had it before. I believe it has to do with stress, thyroid and menopause. Its terrible and I hate it. I have lost alot of mine but it was due to being sick and losing alot of wt. I wish I had an answer but I don't. if you find something let me know. Mine is still alittle pudgy and I can live with it because I can get back into the kind of clothes I like to wear. Not the grandma clothes that are big and cover up ever thing LOL. Good luck.
OMG, I am the same age, have the thyroid problems, and also have the same exact menopak! But, what I can't figure out is that I have been going through menopause for a long time... so, why in the last year or so with the belly flab? No one can believe how little I eat! That may be the problem... food is kinda grossing me out! I know I could eat a bit better and more. So, I'm committing to the organic route because I really think that the processed food and preservatives/additives must have something to do with the weight staying on, particularly around the belly. Also need to eat breakfast & lunch! I only eat 1 meal a day. I've heard it has a lot to do with stress, as well, which has been MAJOR in my life for the last couple of years. But, its impossible for me to lose weight! I'm also Bipolar and ADHD, so all of the meds.
can't be good, and may be masking a true read on the state of my thyroid. So, I'll let you know how the organic foods work out. And, keep me posted on your condition & any solutions you may find. Good luck!
Hi LJA and girls,
Can I join the Menopak? Ha! Ha!
I'm 48, 5 5". I weight 160lbs. Use to be 145lbs about 5 years ago. Except when I was hospitalised in 2007 for depression. I was 104 lbs. Not well at all.
Anyway, my Lithium gave me hypothyroid and that makes it impossible to loose weight. Plus menopause. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have it in my mid section so much. It's hard to hide with clothes. It's really important to eat 3 meals a day and 2 snacks. Drink water too. If you don't your metabolism does not work right. I find that in the winter I eat junk food only on weekends. I don't eat anything except water aflter supper in the weekday. That helps not put pounds on anyway. That's all out the window this summer. I found that I wanted to enjoy the summer and eat what I want, enjoy those BBQ and have a drink now and again. Oh yeah! 2 months ago a girl asked me when I was due?
That was not great!
