I recently went to the hospital and was diagnosed with colitis. They gave me a prescription for some intestinal antibiotics but also prescribed me Flagyl. I'm thinking it's a possibility they did it because I had BV as well. However, I read the normal treatment for BV is 2 grams of Flagyl, but my doctor prescribed me 500mg to take 3x a day for 1 week. That's 10,500 grams! Is this even safe??
I'm answering in case someone else is interested- I certainly hope you are all better by now! My Dr. prescribed flagyl 500mg for 10 days for intestinal infection. It treats several kinds of infections, but if they weren't sure which bug you had, they may have given you several antibiotics hoping to wipe it out.
