There are several forms of metoprolol such as Lopressor, Toprol, metoprolol tartrate (the one I am taking), what's the difference and which is best? Are those just brand names but same chemical?
Lopressor is a brand name for the active ingredient Metoprolol Tartrate which is usually prescribed as a twice a day dosing (every 12 hours). Toprol is the brand name for the active ingredient Metoprolol Succinate which is usually prescribed once a day (every 24 hours). Its essentially the same active ingredient but a different duration of action which is mostly dependent on your doctor preference and the condition you are being treated for.
