Is it ok to take metoprolol 100 mg ER instead of metoprolol tartrate 100 mg?

Metoprolol tartrate is a twice day medication. Whereas metoprolol succinate or metoprolol ER is a once daily medication normally. That's the difference however the medication in itself is the same. Just one of them, the ER, is Extended Release compared with the tartarate which is normal release.
