... anymore, the problem is that i can´t study or be functional without it, what are the type of problems my baby could have if i take it? is there any other option to replace it for something else?
I went through my pregnancy and a year of breastfeeding without Ritalin (usually taken for narcolepsy) and was kind of a zombie as a result... I did take a low dose (5-10mg, once or twice per day) very close to the due date because the fatigue from pregnancy added to my perpetual sleepiness meant that it wasn't safe for me to be doing much of anything (climbing stairs, driving to work... ) without at least a little medication.
From memory only (and I have no medical training, just a lot of interest and reading on this topic, so please verify on your own): Stimulants such as methylphenidate can cause CNS problems in the fetus. CNS is developing quickest and most susceptible to defects in the first trimester.
If I had to do it over again, I'd probably opt to take a bare minimum dose in the second and third trimesters, and probably would have been comfortable taking a low dose while breastfeeding (barring any obvious adverse affects on the baby after feedings). For my situation, I think the risk reduction from me being more awake/alert would have outweighed the risk of the trace amounts of medication reaching the baby.
