Hi melly & welcome to the site. I don't have much to offer you on this as I have never encountered it with my children, but am giving you a link to read all about this drug. Don't let it scare you, its there so you can be aware of what it can & can't do, & gives you the side effects, & also what can or can't interfere with it. I hope this helps, & am sure others will be along to help answer your question... Mary
They use methylphenidate often for ADD/ADHD symptoms. One of my sons had ADHD which is the hyperactive form of inattention, the other had ADD which is the form of inattention that doesnt involve hyperactivity. They both were on methylphenidate. It was one of the best things I could have done for them. their grades went up and the behavior problems that my ADHDer had got much better! It can affect their appetite though so be sure your daughter is eating. Be sure she takes it early in the day so that she doesnt have problems sleeping. You should be able to tell pretty quickly if it is helping. Her teachers will tell you that she is paying more attention in class and less talking and daydreaming. Her grades should go up. If you dont see any results within a month or two then it is probably not helping and she may need some other medicine or a different approach to her therapy. It is always scary to put your kids on a medicine, I know, but in this case I feel I did the right thing by my kids.
