Methimazole - I have been taking methamazole for less than 2 months. My AST and ALT are slightly elevated (7 and 16 points respectively). Prior to starting Methamazole my AST was normal but my ALT was 20 point above normal. Would this be a cause for concern while taking this medicine? More specifically would this be cause to stop taking this medicine?
I will answer my own question since I just had labs redrawn and they are all fine. I mean all! My liver tests are normal but so are my thyroid tests. Of course, as I am taking Methimazole, my free T4 is on the very lowest end of normal. My endocrinologist has decided not to see me anymore if I dont have radioactive iodine uptake and scan, but that is ok since I don't need his services. Please, if you read this, try to give your body a chance to heal itself before doing anything that seems wrong to you.
