been taking methadone for bout 3 years. Want something different/better for me. Dr gave me buprenorphine and am very sick. i feel like i should go back to methadone and forget the buprenorphine? Any advice or words of wisdom out there?
Go back to your doctor, and tell him that you'd like to consider taking subutex. I've been told that the subutex will give much more relief because it doesn't have the narcan in it, which is 'possibly' why you may not be getting relief.
I've been on Suboxone for a year now and only have gotten waves of relief. I don't partake in any other use, and in the year I've been on Suboxone... I still feel crappy. Although I have to say that I have pushed myself to go down from 3- 8MG tabs down to crumbs a day, so that is most likely why I haven't gotten much relief. I just want off this crap forever!!!
I wish you the best and hope that you are able to find a decent form of relief.
There is a special way to induct a methadone patient onto suboxone and actually, you should have been put on subutex during induction, as it doesn't have the second blocker med in it. You have to be at 30 mgs or less or methadone to get on subutex and even then you are supposed to wait 36 to 48 hours before taking it to keep you from going into Precipitated Withdrawal. methadone is a long acting opiate, you may have been a too high a dose to go on subutex, or maybe took it too soon, before the methadone had receded enough off the brain receptor sites for the subutex to work. Call your doctor tomorrow and let them know how bad a reaction you had. I can almost assure you that if you had been on a low enough dose of methadone to make the switch, had been advised to be off the methadone longer, and been put on subutex first, you would have not had to go thru this. I am so sorry that happened to you, you are in my Prayers.
From experience I think Methadone is a better drug if you want to be able to functions normal without any side affects. Suboxone (Buprenorphine) is okay but it will take at least a week if not longer before you start to feel a little better. If you are taking this due to drug dependency I feel Methadone will not give you the urge to use. With Suboxone that feeling might come back. Can I ask why you would want something different if its working? My feeling if its not broke don't fix it. Maybe you should just continue to do what was working for you in the beginning. Hope this helps. Good luck to you.
hello, what you don't know about me is that I am terminally ill and have been taking methadone myself for a couple of years. It is great for pain, but I will remain on it until I pass.It is a very hard drug to get off of .The best pain reliever, but i have never had a drug problem.it is painful to see my son and others struggle to kick their addiction.Suboxen is expensive ,but effective i have heard. Most people need a lot of supervision while trying to get off of opiates. My prayers are with you.
