Then I lose much weight as a result of a continues intake of metformin 500 until I look horrible and sick. My doctor said it means that metformin is working and nothing to worry and said I have to still continue the met, My ecg is normal as well as my chest xray, Im having my BP maintenance med. Is my doctor right ? I am thinking to see another doctor.
Sounds to me that you may have needed to lose weight as well? How much weight are you saying you have lost? An A1c of 6.0 or under is very good. However, if recent blood sugar readings are over 100 then something is going on. I suspect your dose is too high. The endocrinologist is the person who will help you. An Internal medicine doctor can help as well. Most General physicians around here are very good and board certified. They are also internal medicine doctors, but that varies from state to state and country to country. When in doubt, find a specialist is my moto.
In the meantime, read about diabetes and work on adjusting to a diabetic diet. If you can do this slowly over the next few months you will maintain your blood sugar as it should be and you won't need any treatment. I control mine with diet, it took some time but I need little insulin daily if any. Just a base insulin, long acting, because of the medications I take, which started this whole thing for me.
