Following a heart valve replacement 18 mos. ago, my meds were changed. The only new prescription I am taking is Metoprolol TAR, 50mg daily. Since that surgery, I have had severe insomnia. In addition, I often feel my heart beating in my chest and pulsing in my ears at night. My resting pulse rate is 56 to 62. The Cardiologist offers no help. Is it possible that this is from the Metoprolol? Is there a beta blocker that doesn’t produce these symptoms? Getting desperate!!!
Hi frier0453! Welcome to Drugs.com :)
There are several choices of beta-blockers & they're not all interchangeable. Please make sure that you contact your doctor first if you're thinking of switching. You may find out more information about Beta-blockers by looking on the web browser at the top here. Put "beta-blocker" into the search engine box to pull up lists of beta-blockers & other related information.
My husband had a quadruple coronary grafting by-pass procedure 2 years ago. Presently, he uses Biprolol 10 mg. Another beta-blocker that he has used, just after being discharged from the hospital, was Carvedilol. "Lol" shows that these drugs are in the same family. Another popular drug is Propranolol (Inderal).
My husband has no known side effects from his beta-blocker.
I'm so sorry about your health concerns frier0453!
May you find a good replacement.
Please contact your doctor. Thank you.

I have found 2 of the 3 types of blood pressure meds to be almost lethal, those being beta blockers and angiotensins, the third, calcium channel blockers, at
least debilitating. Investigate alternative medicine, acupuncture, supplements.
Each of us has our individual response to these heavy, conentrated drugs. Doctors don't always consider this. Listen to your body, evaluate your own reactions. - Insomnia was only one negative affect from beta blocker.
