Meropenem how superer than pipercilline + tazobactum?

The antibiotic spectrum of meropenem and piperacillin with tazobactam are very similar. They are both used to treat serious infections caused by pseudomonas aeruginosa. It would depend on what you are treating as to which was more appropriate.

meropenem is superior in treating esbl producing strains(Eg pseudomonas ) than piperacillin tozabactum as chances of recurrences of infection are less with meropenem
