I have recently lost a considerable amount of weight, break out in sweats, soke the sheets. I have crohns disease so the doctor has checked everything except my hormones. I was just wondering is it possible I could be going through menopause at 37? I know my mother was quite young. I had a hysterectomy in February but kept my ovaries.. it was after that the weight changed and and the sweats started.
You 'look' so familiar, haha... Yes, I'm just about the same age as you, and I have hot flashes too, aren't they fun? (Is that called peri-menopause?) My mum was young as well when she went through it (like your mum). She was probably between 35 and 38.
Maybe a blood sample is required? Get 'em check gurl, and best wishes to you!!
And I was 34 or 35 when I called my dr to say I suspected menopause, he said I was too young but ran the FSH follicle stimulating hormone test anyway and I WAS in peri pause. They staved it off for a long time with birth control pills then put me on replacement hormones. It is possible, but even if it is happening, they can give you either birth control pills or hormones to help. Patti
I was asking around about the same thing, as for a year now I've been getting my period twice monthly (I'm 48). I'm given to understand that it usually doesn't go that way - that it becomes less frequent; but I'm chalking it up to perimenopause, as there are a whopping amount of side effects attached to the change of life, and it seems to me that it effects everyone uniquely... some people might not even get hot flashes, or know that they are having it! Also the range of when it can hit is phenomenal - starting as early as mid-thirties, all the way up to some who don't get it until maybe 55! So Bloxham, as you are noticing bodily changes like night sweats, it really could be change of life... and it can go on for many years before it's over as well. My pal did get it at age 37, and it was over and done with by that stage.
Dear Bloxham... I have not read the other responses so please excuse me if I repeat anything that has already been posted?
Yes you may be going through menopause. It is possible that Chrohn's disease precipitated it... but most likely it is genetic since your mother also went through it early...
Also if you started your period later than normal you will go into menopause earlier... and if you started your period earlier in life you will go into menopause later than normal... I know... it sounds backwards and it is... especially the poor souls who started their periods early in life!!!
Just go with whatever symptoms you are experiencing... make sure you see your GYN doc... possibly get on some hormone replacement therapy. I actually do bio-identical hormone therapy which is wonderful.
Menopause does not have to be a traumatic period in life. It can be full of wisdom and enlightenings. Please get the book called "The Wisdom of Menopause" by Dr. Christine Northrup... it is truly a helpful book. Also... the books by Susan Sommers are also very even though she is seen as an "air head blonde" this book will change minds on that description of her for it is well written and has an excellent bibliography of references from which she used along with many interviews, etc. it is worth the money and will further go into the bio-identical hormone therapy... which is the most current and sensible treatment.
There are many myths about menopause. Losing sex drive is one of them which is not true at all... well, I guess it is for many but it doesn't have to be... anyway... this is all I will say about that lol!!!
Anyway... I kind of got a little long-winded but I do love to educate when I am able.
Good luck and see this as a new beginning for you... be well my friend...
It isn't extremely rare for monepause symptoms at 37. I was 30 having the symptoms before my hysterecctomy after for a few months heavy night sweat I have ome ovary. It depends on the age of your mother when she went through and age of when you had kids and. Mother had kids and stopped. Ask your gyno give your boody time it'll adjust I'm 35 best thing I ever did except my kids take care
