Progesterone and a very small dose of estogen. I've just started getting hot flashes and they are very bothersome. I was wondering if slightly increasing my dose of estrogen would help. Has anyone found anything helpful for hot flashes?
It has been awhile for me, but I did have a problem bad enough to keep me from sleeping well. Fortunately for me, my OBGyn was interested in alternative med at the time and he put me on a fairly high dose of Vitamin E and told me to cut back on all caffeine. That included chocolate, of course. It really did help me. Some folks say it does not help. You need to talk with your own doctor , because Vitamin E can be a blood thinner and might affect other meds you take.
Be aware that it takes awhile for the Vitamin E (and the estrogen) to help though.
You might want to ask him to keep close tabs on your thyroid during this time. Many women (as I did!) develop thyroid problems during pre-
menopause and menopause and it definitely clouds the issue of the hot flashes and other problems. Turns out I was also having "heavy sweating" episodes related to the thyroid. Took awhile, but with patience with my doctor and tests and tweaking, I lived to tell this story! juneaf
