I am a 59 year old female. I was very active all of my life. I worked as a Correctional Officer in Florida, so I was in excellent physical condition. Then the big "C" grabbed me and changed my life. I am happy to be a 10 year survivor of multiple myeloma. The side effects from the cancer and pain from bone and nerve damage are my constant companions. However, I am still alive and able to feel the pain --- that makes me very blessed. I am far too stubborn to give up and will count each day that I wake up as an accomplishment and a gift.
After remaining in remission for 10 years, my cancer relapsed in June 2014. We knew that eventually the myeloma would come back, so it was not a surprise. I have been blessed with a multitude of wonderful family and friends who freely give me their strength to draw upon, and they love and support me daily.
My cancer relapsed a year ago. My oncologist immediately started me on chemo. Two months ago he declared me to be in total remission -- AGAIN! I am still extremely blessed. I have beat incurable cancer twice now, so I have nothing to complain about!
