I live in a very noisy house and work the night shift. I want to sleep but the 5mg I take is not enough to sleep through the noise. How much should I take?
I could be mistaken but from what I understand, melatonin is more of a sleep regulator than a sedative. Have you considered talking to a doctor about maybe getting a sleep aid? I have insomnia and also take a medication that has a side affect of keeping me awake. Melatonin never helps me. Trazodone helps me a lot, and so does vistaril. Believe it or not sometimes I still can't sleep. I learned this trick in therapy... do not lay in your bed unless you are ready to close your eyes. When u lay there pick one word and repeat it over and over and over. If you wake up or feel like it's not working, get up out of the bed, and walk over to the window or the wall and look at something for 5 minutes. Then go back to the bed and lay down immediately closing your eyes. No phones, no computers, no tv. Another thing that helps me is having extra fabric softener on my blankets, pillow cases and Jammie's. It's the best feeling ever to get out of the bath and jump into fresh Jammie's and fresh bedding.
