I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, and depression. I have tried almost every drug available to try and keep me level, but every drug seems to only work for a few months, and then I have to switch meds, go through detox/withdrawals, and start all over again. No one seems to believe me when I say my meds are causing problems for me healthwise, and I am at the end of my rope. I have 4 kids that depend on me, as well as my husband who works all the time. I can't handle going through these cycles, and it makes me feel like a failure as a mother and wife. Someone please help
First of all I am so sorry you're struggling! I hear you. I am too! I also have four small children and have tried countless meds. I have anxiety and panic and agoraphobia. I'm currently detoxing from Ativan which was the only hope I had for the past year. I'm trying to go natural and see if I can balance my vitamins, amino acids and hormones. The hormones especially have been such a trigger for me lately. I hope someone has a helpful medication that might help you if it's helped someone else with similar hurdles. Best of luck!
You have my compassion and understanding. You aren't a terrible mother or wife, you're a sick one. You can only do so much in sickness. I would immediately change Drs. and get a good psychiatrist. You have too many problems for any other kind of Dr. and this one doesn't seem able to solve your problems. Your message seems to include the Dr. as you say "... no one seems to believe me when I say my meds are causing problems for me healthwise, and I am at the end of my rope." A Dr. who doesn't listen to you and doesn't believe you is neglectful and likely abusive. Don't fall for this, you've had enough already. Ask around for referrals, even your pharmacist. Check the internet for Dr. ratings. That's how I've found the most wonderful Psy. Dr. ever. It helped me get an app't. when I learned she'd agreed to help take my retiring Psy Dr's. patients because otherwise she wasn't accepting new patients! I have a long drive, but getting the right Dr. is critical. There IS one out there for you.
I, too, was unable to parent when I was very sick. Other family members took my kids, I don't remember who. Once I recovered enough, I had them back home. I've been an excellent parent except for extreme sickness. I have 3 wonderful grown sons. You can get there, too, if your mental health is straightened out.
You could use a good counselor. You badly need this for your mental health and to handle all the issues of your life. Plan on going for a long time. Again, ask around for a good one. My GYN referred me to my LMHC with a Master's degree. Who could've predicted THAT? I couldn't do better with a psychologist and I pay less. I've been going at least 16 years. She's really like a close friend. I've had a lot of reasons to go, and your life with 4 kids, all of your ailments & a hubby will bring up lots of issues through the years. It's so worth it if you can go. To save money, a lot of churches have good counselors whom you pay on a sliding scale per income. You don't have to be a member.
I have a possibility for you. I have 1 grown son who's ADHD and depression haven't gotten better as an adult. No antidepressant has worked in the 4 years he's been trying every one his Dr. can think of. Now he's getting ECT (Electro-Convulsive Therapy). It's out of the dark ages and far safer than you might think. He had his 1st treatment and felt better than he ever has in his life for 10 minutes. That's success! To maintain the progress, he has to have a series of treatments and then some maintenance is likely. Just another option for you.
This is getting long, but I hope you follow through on some of my suggestions. We can talk anytime you want. Oh, I've raised 3 ADD/ADHD sons, and I'll bet 1 or 2 of your kids has inherited those from you. We can talk about that, too. Hang in there, you can see better days in the future... the NEAR future, I hope. God bless... I'll be praying for you and your family.
