Can 5 mg prednisone help with C.O.P.D. ?
Most definately. It decreases the inflammation so the little tubes in your lungs are open more. My Dad took 5 mg a day for years.
Prednisone is a steroid medication that strengthens the lungs. Make sure you follow the directions while taking this medication. Most steroids lasts about a week. Each day, you lower the dosage by one pill until you have finished all the medication. Maybe, your doctor has prescribed a low dosage for you for a longer duration of time. I have mild copd and I take turmeric capsules and fish oil each day. These supplements has an anti inflammatory effect on the bronchial tubes in the lungs. If I don't take my supplements, I begin to wheeze. You can purchase turmeric pills at Walmart in the vitamin section. Turmeric also prevents cancer, lowers cholesterol, and detoxifies the body.
WOW! I never knew about the turmeric and fish oil. I've been on Pred off and on for 1 1/2 years for COPD. different amounts. Right now on 20mg a day for 2 weeks. Pred is a wonder drug, but many side effects to deal with also. It will surely help with the breathing and wheezing. Good Luck
As the ladies have said, it can help a lot. If you need a longer course be sure you watch for mood swings. If troubling then talk with the doctor to take something for agitation and such. Better the inflammation reduces and you take a pill for anxiety, then that terrible not able to breathe feeling. Find a Pulmonolgist you trust, take Respiratory Therapy courses and you will be much better for it.
If you are a smoker. Think it through.
