... prescribed this today at the age of 48! But if it helps me, i'm all for it. Just want advice, a success story, etc. thank you!
My son took it with good results as a child. I used to take Adderall but my insurance stopped covering it for adults. Adderall XR worked really well for me! I felt really good on it (it helped me lose a lot of weight too, which I gained back once I had to stop it) I really wish I could go back on it. I probably felt the best I have in my adult life while I was on it. I had energy and focus. I'm a typical adult ADDer. All my life, I have had focus problems. I got good grades in school but I was constantly being told how much better I could do if I would just apply myself (I wish I had a dollar for every time I was told this and I could retire now! lol). All my report cards report that I was a "daydreamer" and I was "talkative" I was smart enough that I didnt have trouble doing my school work but I actually worked better if I had music going while I studied. I still read books and watch TV at the same time.
I always have at least 3 books that I am reading here and there about the house. It is hard for me to get work done because I am easily distracted. I will go to look for something, get distracted by something else and 3 hours later remember what I was doing in the first place! I am not the most organized person in the world. My coworkers used to laugh at me because my desk was a disaster but were amazed if they asked m about a certain paper I could produce it from the chaos! I get bored with jobs very easily so I usually dont stay too long at one job. Lucky for me there are lots of lateral movements I can make and still not leave my profession (I am a nurse and I have done a lot of different kinds of jobs. I like to learn and once I know all there is to know about a job, I quickly get bored and have to find something else) I have a hard time sleeping because it is hard to turn my mind off at night. I have learned to get to sleep by making up stories in my head and add to the story each night. Thinking about the detail to my story helps me to finally fall asleep but some nights it can take a few hours for me to finally nod out. Adderall did seem to help me focus and be more organized and Concerta is similar so it will probably make you feel better. It may make you feel kind of crappy at first but once you have been on it a while, you and people around you notice the difference. Good Luck, hope it works well for you! If it doesnt seem to work, dont give up-there are a lot of different meds to try. It is often a bit of trial and error to find what works for you! Concerta is methylphenidate (so same thing as Ritalin, it is just the delivery system that is different) so it has been around a long time and is tried and true!
Hi Kaw Chuck here just wanted to say when i was still working in the pharmacy I dispenced lots of this for just the reason your talking about and it worked great for many age makes no difference on this medications yes you see more kids but then it started to swing the other way and they dispenceded it to many with that problem at your age and well into the 50's so im not supprised that a doctor would use this for your for that problem chuck 1957
My son is on it now and has been for about 2 years. He is 15. It has been the best ADHD med for him and he is doing very well on it. Of course these meds make you lose your appetite. If this happens to you just ask your doctor for ciproheptadine. My son uses a half of a 2mg tablet.
Good luck hope this helps you!
