Do you know about dietary management of gout ?
It used to be called the rich man's disease because only people with money could afford the foods high in purines which is what exacerbates gout.
Avoid organ meats (liver,etc), shellfish and beer.
Elevate your leg when you have a flare up and apply ice.
Between flare ups do stretching exercises so you don't lose range of motion in the toe..
Keep following up with your doc to have uric acid lab values monitored.
If it's not under control you could have long term problems.
The gout forms crystal deposits which usually affects the big toe.
Untreated it can cause damage with crystal deposits in the heart, kidney and other important places
You could either go to a Rheumatolgist,
Podiatrist or orthostatic but if you trust your primary I'm sure he could it.
