Hello rhondasmith. Please take as prescribed. The starters dose of Trazodone is 50mg. If being taken for depression, the dose is from 200 to 400mg per day. Trazodone is also prescribed off label for insomnia and the dose is either 50mg or 100mg. Most all doses are taken prior to ones bedtime in as due to the sedative effects of the drug. Regards pledge
Yes it's safe to take two fifty mg tablets of trazodone at the same time. I have done it many times although it says just 50 mg at bedtime. All that will happen is you feel this chemical drunk like thing going on if you stay up at all after you take the pills so I advise taking them and hitting the bed.
After taking trazadone I built a tolerance quickly. My doctor said it was ok to take 2 and then gradually increase the dose. I would just check with your doctor first. It seemed to work for a short time and then I would take them and just feel really tired and out of it but never fall asleep so I discontinued use.
Rhonda, it may be safe to take 2 of the 50mgs of Trazodone, but, if your doctor just wrote for one, I would follow his intructions until you get his okay to take more. 1st of all, you will run out half way thru rx, 2nd, doctor may think you are abusing. Get in to see doctor ASAP, let them know 50 mg is NOT working well enough. Let it be their idea to increase dose or change meds. It is best to be honest with doctor, rather than self medicate. They are there to help, and more likely to help if you are up front with them. Just speaking from experience, hon.
