use. I understand after long term opiate use, it can wreak havoc on endocrine system, which could be why my hormones are not normal, but doctors don't offer help. Please, does anyone know how i can help myself, especially if I am still having to take pain medication. I feel just horrid, and cannot live like this much longer, am in danger of losing my job if I have to be out due to medical reasons again. I don't know how to wean off medication while working, I can't do it! If I knew I would feel better for sure, I'd let the dang job go... I don't know what to do.
That's a tough one since you say you have to continue taking opiates/pain meds. Drs. have a hard time with this one. First, you've got to find a terrific Endocrinologist, one that believes in both Eastern/Western medicine, or is at least open-minded (my personal opinion, since we need all the help we can get). Its a long process since we must first decipher which hormones have been affected, then trace back to see where the dysfunction has occurred, if possible. For instance, if you have hypothyroid (I do), one can't be sure if that is secondary to a malfunction in adrenal glands, pituitary or whatever. Its not that Drs. don't want to help. They're limited in what they can do & know, given the circumstances. And, if we're on meds, some affect different bodily sytems & give false readings, etc. Since we can't stop those meds, we need to somehow find out if the systems are being affected & how to compensate for that. I would be sure to have the specialist test for low morning Cortisol, as well as the 5 hour adrenal test to see if the gland is producing adequate amounts of hormones at different stages throughout the day & reacting in normal way. The results of those tests will indicate what/how to test further. I started this process because my metabolism was too slow, in addition to menopause. I wanted to know which hormones were affecting what & why since my weight was high despite having no appetite & working out daily!!! And, the reason for certain things happening in my system. I do think all these hormones & how they're functioning have to do with regulation and/or dysregulation of systems. Its just that tracing them is very tough. And, building back up burnt out adrenals can take years. I believe they've affected my bipolar (or caused it), as well. There's a group of Drs. under the name of Body Logic, I believe, that do just this... test for dozens of different hormones to see which ones your body needs more or less of. I'm not endorsing them, but you might check out. They want you to take all their tests (saliva, etc), and are very expensive, but its one alternative. Since I found out very little from Endocrinologist after several different tests, I'm thinking of Chinese herbal meds, but want to find someone that's legit. Good luck!
