I was referred to the NHS Mental Health Service because my doctor couldn't offer me any other medication to help with my anxiety. I started a new medication called Pregabalin which did nothing at all so I ended up coming off that then my psychiatrist turns round and says to me that there isn't any medication that is going to help me... Last thing I wanted to hear because the reason I went to them was for medication my GP didn't prescribe. So now I've left them and gone back to my GP and I've explained about this antidepressant I want to try which he hasnt heard of, so no luck there. So I'm stuck now because I'm struggling like hell and really need some medication.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of what I can do? :/
GP's cannot prescribe certain medications like antidepressants because they would need a mental health referral first. Sounds like this is stopping at your psychiatrists. There are many reasons why they wont prescribe. But, you have the liberty to see another psychiatrist. Even in the same clinic. You'll probably have to wait a while to see someone new but that's your best bet.
aaron; Yes I agree with the other answer, Sounds like the last doctor gave up too quick, So if it were me I would see another doctor. Let them know what you have been going through and medications you have taken and let this doctor Start you on something or many times one medication works much better with another. Don't give in or up. Find another doctor Now. Good luck to you there is an answer you just have to find the right doctor and medication.
