i have copd and need this new medication to kill a gram negative bacteria. i am trying to find the cost and payment options.
Drugstore.com is saying around $94. As far as I know medicare part B only pays for cancer meds. Part D pays for drugs, and it depends on your plan whether they'd pay or not. Novartis makes it and they have a patient assistance program. You find out more by going here www.novartis.com/corporate-responsibility/access-to-healthcare/patient-assistance-programs.shtml
Yes Part B will pay for it but your doctor's diagnosis must be for cystic fibrosis (Code 277.xx) or bronchiectasis (Code 494.x). Any other diagnosis code, COPD (Code 491.21 or 496) will not be paid for under Part B. If you reside in a long term care (LTC) facility or nursing home (not your “home”) the drug will be covered under your Part D prescription benefit. Also, you are only allowed to get this drug from very specific pharmacies, one of which is Foundation Care.
