I have accepted the fact I suffer from major depression disorder - but what I have a really hard time with is the medication mystery game. I cant stand being a guinna pig & playing the medication game. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cope while they try to find something that works for . Me?
I really feel for you, because I've been there. It's so hard when you're waiting for things to work & for symptoms to subside etc.
I think exercise is probably the most useful, & I mean really picking up your cardio. It can be hard to find the motivation when you're low, but it really is great to feel the endorphins.
My suggestion is if you truly want help you are going to have to calm down and realize that no one is using you for a guinea pig. It takes some patience and willingness to take the meds for the 4-6 weeks that it takes these meds to work. Then if the one you are taking doesn't work you have to try a different one.
Oh my, how many of us have been in your shoes! Unfortunately time and waiting is NOT your friend. You should know by 6 weeks if a medication is going to be your answer. Keep a list of what you have taken. Hopefully you are seen a psych to help you. Make a list of any questions before you go to see him, so you don't forget anything. I believe a counselor is essential! I agree that exercise is a big help. If nothing else walk. Read if you can or listen to book on tape. Humor. Don't pass up any opportunity to get out.
Friends, family and the good Lord are there for you. Talk to all of them.
You can pursue non-medication related therapy and treatments. It is a game with these meds until you give each one 6-8 weeks to work and keep in close touch with the Dr who prescribed it, eventually you will have success, although, it doesn't say you have accepted the diagnosis, just the fact is this a formal diagnosis? If so, then maybe he meds being tried are not being given the proper time to adjust, or, maybe just accept that you're not in this condition and can indeed overcome it without meds.
