I have suffered with depression for most of my adult life. No reason but life ... I cry a lot have trouble focusing anxiety and just all over the place. I masked for many years. I currently sought help finally I’m on Prozac low dose but not quite sure it’s helping. Go back to psych next month. Not sure what to ask for because I don’t think I have ever been happy or really know how it supposed to feel. Any advice?
Hi, Sad! Life is full of ups and downs but you certainly shouldn't feel sad all the time. I can relate because I've been treated for Major Depressive Disorder since I was a teenager and now, Bipolar II.
It's understandable that you don't know how you should feel because you've never experienced it.
You are on the lowest dose of Prozac and I think, for starters, you should discuss a dosage increase with your doctor. You could safely go higher if indicated. If that doesn't seem effective further increases may be in order or you could think about an add-on medication like Abilify.
It seems like a lot of trial and error... and that's exactly what it is... but it's worth it in the end if it allows you to have a happy, functional life.
Try to think positively and know that you deserve a better life. You might also consider talking with a therapist to learn better ways of dealing with your feelings and why you are feeling so down.
I wish you all the best and hope you are feeling better very soon. Wildcat
Give it time, this drug worked for me but took some time to kick in. Sounds like you have made a change in life that you are now taking meds. Perhaps it would also be a good time to add some other elements to your daily routine that may help. Go to the library, read more and borrow movies. I read the NYT and WSJ about 3 times a week and it fills my life with knowledge. Get out and exercise. Its winter now but I have a free gym membership and try to workout on an exercise bike a few times a week. Lastly, I stream classical music while I am on my PC. None of these things work all the time but they do work often enough that it gives my life substance.
