Has anyone ever had a Lumbar Hernia? If so what treatment did you recieve? I had surgery 2 weeks ago on mine and i am now left wondering if ive done the right thing, as the pain is quite intence now! Could this mean i am rejecting the gause that was used or is it just early days?
Hi Liz -
I have not had that particular surgery but I have had invasive lumbar fusion with hardware. The pain was pretty rough. Is any one checking your dressing daily??? I know how mine went but I was in a rehab center for 2 weeks following surgery. I was also on some pretty heavy pain killers and muscle relaxers to avoid the spasms in my legs which developed.
I can tell you that if you are that uncomfortable and concerned that I would have someone look at it to determine what is going on. I have never heard of any one rejecting gauze or the mesh but that doesn't mean that it can't happen. Your best bet is to call your surgeon's office and if they can't see you quick enough then call your primary care physician and ask for direction and or help as you are worried that something has gone wrong. I know it is the weekend but don't be afraid to call. I was also told I could contact the hospital if I was having trouble and couldn't get to my doctor.
By the way, do you have anything for pain??? Two weeks isn't really a long time and I was in rehab for two weeks before coming home and then having home care for another period of time. I think it is kind of early to tell but better to be safe than sorry. Call someone... get your mind at ease and ask them what to expect and what to look for as far as the prognosis goes, the pain, rejecting the material and all that so you don't stress yourself out.
Can you put an ice pack on it to ease the pain??? A heating pad might be irritating...
I hope you will let us know how you are doing... after you get this checked out.
Blessings to you and peace to you in your world.
