I have cirrhosis of the liver and undergo paracentesis far too often now. My last one was Friday (3/10) and they had a nephrologist look over my blood work. They called me yesterday to tell me that my potassium level in my kidneys was very low. I'm unable to get through to my primary care physician to be able to talk to my GI. I'm kind of stuck here. Does anyone recommend that I just double up on my prescribed potassium which is Klor-con 20 until I can see someone next week? I'm scared and in pain.
In your situation I don't think I would just do anything on my own I would call my pharmacist & ask, in my case, her opinion & then if that was no help, the ER department at your hospital might advise you because a low potassium can be as dangerous as a to high level. Good luck & God bless you.
