Hello , my DH and I are in the process of trying to conceive a baby, I think I maybe pregnant, I was wondering if a low dose of 1.5 or less would be safe? Also taking trazodone my doctor okayed the trazodone but I forgot to mention the melatonin.
I checked out the advanced information and all it had to say was that information was lacking and that it is passed through breast milk. Infant doses (6 months and above are generally 2-5mg). Truly, if it were me I would quit taking it due to the paucity of information available. Apart from pre natal vitamins (high folic acid/folate dose) which play a major rule in preventing neural tube defects very early in the pregnancy.
my2kin04; Great answer Stephen, And I could not agree more something like Melatonin, You can get by without. And there really has been no studies on pregnant woman I think it was in the rating of N in pregnancy. But it does say that for children and infants it has passed through the breast milk. And has had some effects negative on small children. But being that studies are not clear it for sure is not worth the chance and more so because this is the most critical part of the pregnancy. So the less of anything really you take at this point the better. It is much better being safe than sorry later. Thanks a lot Stephen and please be extra careful my2kin04 we want a healthy beautiful baby in 9 months. So truly the less of any medication is best for the baby at least until the 3rd trimester. to much risk. Chuck1957
my2kin04; yes right there but with no studies done on it and not recommended while pregnant this is not worth the chance of taking at least for the first trimester. But young children it is not recommend for either. So you well be tired enough getting up and down with the baby. Have a good weekend Chuck1957
