... for breast cancer. I was taken off Tamoxifen. I'm told now that I'll need to be on Lovenox for life because of having cancer. I wasn't put on blood thinners when I left the hospital with cancer, so why would that be the explanation now. If cancer wasn't an issue, wouldn't I be taken off the blood thinners after a certain amount of time (after the blood clots had reabsorbed into my system) ?
You unfortunately are one of the women who got a clot while taking Tamoxifen. This is a known side effect of the drug. You cannot take Warfarin because you took Tamoxifen. Warfarin is contraindicated since your body may not process the Warfarin since you took Tamoxifen and this could lead to more clots. Since you are a woman and you have been told you should be on Lovenox for life, you should talk to your doctor or Hematologist about transitioning to Arixtra instead of the Lovenox since long-term use can lead to bone loss. Best wishes.
