... people die from alcohol and tabacco use all the time. Atleast the purpose of pain killers are to kill pain. Am I misunderstanding something?

MONEY, it's all about what how much the government came make off of what, it can make more money making you have to goto a dr. pay them, then goto a pharmacy and pay them, who pays the drug companies, and the government get's a piece of all of that. Where as alcohol and tabacco all they can do is tax. It doesn't make any sense i know but that is just MY opinion, others will have their own.
Tis true. Tax on alcohol & cigs are outrageous. They are so worried about drug addiction & rightfully so, but we've had this discussion before. The Feds are making it hard for people who have legitimate pain issues while the rest of they people sit back with a beer in one hand & a cig in the other??? Stupid ,huh?
Alem4k, I thumbs her up to help balance the equation. It is easy to td someone on accident, doing it from phone it is too easy. B r r Mars, won't let me use your name, corrects it automatically to Bernard. Back to the question, true it can be a tax money thing, but drs are also afraid of lawsuits, sanctions, having their licenses revoked and patient od's and deaths. I often see where people complain about drs being drug dealers, I am going to play the devil's advocate here. My doctor has never once appeared at my house asking me to take any medicine, nor does he hang out on a street corner dispensing and hawking his wares. It is only when I go in with a medical symptom that he suggests a medication that might help. He knows I don't have insurance, he gives me generics and orders few tests, I have been seeing him 27 years. He knows what I look like when I am well and when I am sick and can generally guess enough to order only the tests I need.
I understand your point about drug od's and doctors losing licenses, but people often od from alcohol as well and you hear all time about some person who's had too much to drink causing fatal accidents and not to mention, smoking can cause cancer, even second hand smoke can cause cancer. Besides, it's not the Doctors, it's the gov thats disappoints me.
i asked a simular question about pot and smoking and drinking!i agree with you i can go buy smokes and a drink with no trouble but let me need more pain meds then i'm getting ,i'm addict !not!just sometimes no pain meds help my pain!like last night i hurt so bad i though iwas gonna die !patch and pills weren't enough had to take fentanyl citrate to knock the pain down to where i could handle it !
yep!!! Same thing here.
Society just does not want to introduce another intoxicant into it, esp. one that many would make legal. There will never be another Prohibition on booze. Everyone saw where that got us, and people need their cigs, addicting yes, but not intoxicating like alcohol or painkillers. Some doctors do overact to the painkiller issue b/c most are not abusing them, but then again, most doctors go home after a long day and have a few alcoholic drinks, like many of us and never give it an afterthought. Without booze they would probably be writing self scripts for painkillers or some benzo medication to keep a cool head. Society needs a drug fix, it is something that keeps it functioning without diving into the ghetto crack habits found by a select few. Pot should be legal, cigarettes illegal, and booze legal, but drinking age of 23. Just my input. :)
